Mrs. FUNKEBALOGUN and Caro Smith, FIFA scam

You must be a moron to think this isn't spam, but the name of the "Co-coordinator" makes it worth mentioning. "Mrs. Funkebalogun" actually two names, Funke Balogun, is apparently common in Nigeria - big surprise.

The text of the email, (in all caps) was as follows:

DEAR WINNER,
PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE ATTACHMENT FOR DETAILS,YOU HAVE THEREFORE BEEN APPROVED FOR LUMP SUMS OF ONE MILLION NINE HUNDRED THOUSAND UNITED STATES DOLLARS
SINCERELY,
Mrs.FUNKEBALOGUN
(Co-coordinator).
Mrs. Caro Smith
(Secretary)
The text of the letter (which you should not open) included the amount in pink capital letters, as if it was making fun of itself!

Craigslist Spam Scam - Take Down Your Post

I recently sold a bike on Boston Craigslist and I received a number of interesting scammer spams.

The signs that its a scam were: they wanted to mail me a check, instead of pay cash in person. They wanted me to take down my post because they "liked the bike so much" they didn't want anyone else to buy it from me. They were not located in Boston like any normal Boston Craigslister.

Note: the title of their emails to me was the title of my craigslist posting, they must have some automatic way of doing that.

Names used: VEMORA BANTASHI, Terry Patrick
Emails to spam: equalright001@yahoo.com, drterry012@yahoo.com

Pictures from the post:

His initial email:
Hi seller,
How you doing today?,am ok with the description you made on your property you wanna sell here and am also ok with the price. Will you kindly get back to me with your name and contact address with which i will issue and despatch a check payment to you as i dont want to miss this.
Besides,i would love you withdraw the AD from craigslist so as to avoid further contacts from other buyers, this means you should considered it sold to me.Am expecting you very soon.
Regards.

My response:
Hello buyer,
You probably want to pick this bike up in person- cash too rather than check.
Can you meet me at 4:00 tomorrow at the top of Kenmore station and you can buy the bike.
I will take the ad down when the bike is sold- so you better be there tomorrow if you want the bike!
Let me know if that time is good,
His Response:
Oh thats a nice advice from you being a good fellow but it is quite unfortunate that am not in the state presently and i must tell you it was my dear wife that saw the advert and called my attention to it.....anyway,am highly impressed with the description you made in the advert....do get back to me with the requested info so as for me to go ahead with the purchase.
Regards.

The email from Terry:
hello
I will like to know if the above item is still available for sale,
i will like to buy this item so pls i do want you to withdraw the advert from Craigslist i dont mind giving you an extra $20 to add to it cos i dont want to lose this this item. I will also like you to know that i will be paying via check due to the distance as i am located in Florida.I will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of
the check.
1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address be it residential or postal address
3.Your phonenumber.
**I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping
i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check**
Have a nice day
My response to him:
Dear Terry,
I'm so glad that you want to buy my bike, in fact I have had many requests from potential buyers but yours stood out from the crowd and so I have taken down the add and I will sell it to you!
There is no need to waste a check though, in fact, I'll take your offer of the increased $20 and ship the bike to your Florida location free of charge!
Just reply with your
1. Full name
2. Bank account number (with routing number)
Then I will deduct the money from your account and ship it right away!
Pleasure to do business with you,
-James
I have yet to see if this will work! I could get rich over this maybe . . . scamming spammers- my favorite activity!

Puppy Love, Gomez J. Alexander kyro@lamgroup.co.uk

I recieved an email (subject: Puppy Love) with an executable file named: Greeting Postcard.exe from a mysterious Gomez J. Alexander (kyro@lamgroup.co.uk)
I don't think I know anyone with this name so I suppose it is spam.
My email client actually took off the attachment suspecting it was a virus, I wouldn't have opened it anyway. If you recieved mail from Mr. Gomez, I suggest you do not open it as well.

The note from my email client:
This message contained an executable (Greeting Postcard.exe) file as an attachment.
The transport of executable files via E-mail can be exploited for the
propagation of viruses and has therefore been restricted for your protection.
The executable file has been removed and replaced with this message.

Do You Yahoo!?
Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around
http://mail.yahoo.com

It doesn't look like spam at first but taking a look at the attached photo we see that its promoting this website that sells drugs. www.33rx.com Don't go there.

Now the spam actually came from a yahoo address! The irony. Anyway feel free to spam jarekhosimsett@yahoo.com, karnanvilrincudd@yahoo.com, and manucusreddtler@yahoo.com before Yahoo gets its act together and shuts them down.
Thanks to commentors for the last couple addresses!

photoprofiles.net Spam

I recently created a myspace page simply to keep anyone else from getting it. Naturally I got a spam message within a month. Thanks to the investigative work of the Secchi Disk , Megan, Jen, Maria, Jessica, Mellanie, and Linda are not real people. I learnt the easy way (googling) that they are not interested in you and do not think that you are cute.
the following webpage is intentionally made not a link, its there just to get hits from people searching but please don't go to their website and don't even think of signing up lest we encourage these heinous crimes.
photoprofiles.net
http://photoprofiles.net/
http://www.photoprofiles.net/

The evil spam message from "Megan" (may we blaspheme here name).

So, looks like the time has arrived for me to start using this site. I can resist no more! I took a look at your page and well, I liked what I saw.. :p

So.. ya :) my name is Megan. I think we should probably be friends, cause you seem pretty nice, and maybe even cute! (it's everso tough to tell in this digital world :)

anyway, i'd go on and on, but I want to get a response from you.. You should check out my other page on this other site, I'm always on over there: www.photoprofiles.net?id=2313&mypics (my username is hotmicky). Then maybe we could chat sometime! you know what they say.. appearance wins over the eyes, but personality catches the heart.. haha..

take care,

Megan

Kamel Ben Salem Tunis University, Pacific Journal

*I have made an error. Tony Maranto has suggested that Kamel has no afilliation with Akamia so direct all the spam to Kamel himself because Akamia appears to be the Good Guys.
The following post was written before I knew this.

I got a spam email the other day from Kamel, a supposed professor at *Akamai University http://www.akamaiuniversity.us/ This university claims to believe in the "amelioration of major world problems." If there is a greater world problem than email spam I'll eat my hat and post a video of my doing so online. The hypocrisy is obvious enough but I decided to let the "Dr." Ben-Salem know my thoughts (words in quotes come from their website)
Email spam is a "major world problem." It threatens the "sustainability" of the World Wide Web, what I consider to be the greatest "generator of new knowledge." A sender of spam (and by this I mean the notorious Kamel Ben Salem) is the appitamy of all evil. Their sending is by all means detrimental to "the advancement of the human condition."

I would not like to join your "efforts toward human betterment" if these efforts require such high crimes to humanity as sending spam emails.
Join in and send your own irate emails to: kamel.bensalem@fst.rnu.tn, kamel_archives@yahoo.fr,

The infamous letter:

Dear colleague,

I am a Tunisian University professor. I am interested in data analysis concerning different domains (Biology, Geology, Astronomy, Linguistics etc...). In this context I have written a paper entitled : "A new vision of the universe evolution", that has been presented at the SYMPOSIUM ″The Future of Life and the Future of Our Civilization″ held at the University of Frankfurt (Germany- May , 2005) and recently published (in an extended version)in "The Pacific Journal of Science and Technology" (Vol 6,1, May 2005, please see : http://www.akamaiuniversity.us/PJST6_1_37.pdf).

In this paper I describe a scenario of the solar system end, the initial structure of the universe, its formation chronology, its evolution etc... The results of our investigations are carefully compared with the most recent theories such as that of Harvey Richer (University of British Columbia) and that of Paul Steinhardt (Princeton University)& Neil Turok (Cambridge University).
Would you please send me your comments even if you are not a specialist in this domain of research. You response will be used to achieve a statistical analysis of the whole responses sent by experts and non experts. In fact, I aim to reach three targets : - To get as much opinions as possible on a subject that interests the future of the solar system and of the universe in general. - To contact experts in Astronomy as well in cosmology and philosophy etcÂ… - To achieve a statistical analysis of the responses IÂ’ll receive. I look forward to receiving your comments promptly. Thank you for your valuable co-operation..
